Annasley Park, Ocean Rower

Annasley ParkOcean Rower

A former GB cyclist who rowed the Atlantic Ocean solo, unsupported and independently. The next three years are pointed at a solo expedition in Antarctica.

In her own words

Fifty-four days alone on the Atlantic, and the moment she put two feet on the ground. From Karl’s documentary portrait, with sound and captions.

And I got to the north point of the island, and the first person I heard was my sister’s voice saying, come on, Annasley. And that was the most incredible feeling. And I put two feet on the ground. And for the first time in my life, I felt like I had achieved something that I was really proud of. And I’d done it.

Where it led

From a childhood outdoors to the start line of an ocean, and what comes after it.

  1. Growing up

“I suppose I got to learn how to be resilient and be self-sufficient.”

A military family, a twin sister, an older brother, and every spare hour outside.

  2. The bike

“I picked up a bike as part of my rehabilitation.”

The mountains again, then the GB cycling team, and long hours alone in her own head.

  3. The Atlantic

“When I push off, there is absolutely no turning back.”

Solo, unsupported and independent: 54 days without seeing land, until her sister’s voice at the north point of the island.

  4. Antarctica

“I’m off to Antarctica and there is no turning back on this one.”

Three years of building towards a solo expedition in one of the harshest environments in the world.

  5. Where next

Thirty-six seconds on why the next challenge had to be bigger than the Atlantic.

And that, for me, comes down to what environment can I put myself in next? And that was the Antarctic. And that’s what it’s going to be. For the next three years, I’m going to be working towards doing a solo expedition out in Antarctica. There you go. I’ve said it. I’m off to Antarctica, and there is no turning back on this one.
