Why Blood Testing Matters for Performance

The science behind data-driven performance, and what blood testing can add to your training.

You Can't Improve What You Don't Measure

Every serious athlete tracks training volume, heart rate, and recovery metrics. But the most impactful data isn't captured by a wearable. It's circulating in your blood.

Blood biomarkers reveal the internal state of your body in a way that no external device can match. They can show nutritional deficiencies, hormone levels, inflammation and metabolic markers that may affect performance, sometimes before symptoms appear.

That information can help when you are chasing a personal best, recovering from a training block, or focusing at work.

The Hidden Bottlenecks Holding You Back

Low ferritin can reduce your VO2 max and leave you breathless on efforts that should feel comfortable. Low vitamin D has been linked with lower testosterone and weaker immune function. Persistently high cortisol is linked with muscle breakdown and poor sleep.

These aren't fringe scenarios. They're common findings in athletes who "feel fine" but have hit an unexplained plateau. A blood panel replaces some of the guesswork with evidence you can discuss with your coach or doctor.

More training is not always the answer. A blood test can show whether something else deserves a closer look.

From Data to Action

A blood test alone isn't enough. What matters is the combination of markers tested and the context in which they're interpreted. A single marker read on its own can mislead, so related markers are best looked at together.

That's why our Performance panels group markers often reviewed alongside training and recovery. Each tier adds more markers, so you can choose the level of detail that suits your goals.

You can also choose an optional AI summary that explains your results in plain English, and compare them when you test again.

Why Regular Testing Matters

A single blood test is a snapshot. Regular testing turns that snapshot into a trend, which can show more than a single result.

Tracking biomarkers over time lets you see how your body responds to training cycles, dietary changes, supplementation, and recovery protocols. It turns guesswork into evidence and gives you the confidence to make decisions backed by data.

You can repeat a Performance panel to compare results over time; how often depends on the markers and your circumstances.
