This venous blood test measures phosphorylated tau 181 (p-Tau181), a marker associated with Alzheimer's-related amyloid pathology. It is intended for adults aged 55 to 80 with cognitive concerns or suspected mild cognitive impairment who are being assessed for causes of cognitive decline.
A low result can help a clinician assess whether amyloid pathology is less likely to explain cognitive symptoms. A raised result does not confirm Alzheimer's disease and may require further investigation. Discuss suitability and results with your clinician. This is not a general screening test for people without cognitive concerns.
